The faculty members of the department carry out research in many frontier areas which includes crystallography, superconductivity, nanomaterial, nuclear physics, astrophysics, and cosmology. The department has undertaken minor and major research projects supported by funding agencies such as UGC, DST-FIST, SERB, ISRO, and Centre for Research, CHRIST (Deemed to be University). Several research papers have been published in various national & international journals apart from presentations at various conferences across the globe.
The class room teaching is made interactive by using varied methods of teaching and learning which includes presentations, peer learning, use of software simulators, LMS, moodle, etc. In order to develop the practical skills in the students, the class room teaching is well supported by rigorous practical training conducted in the well-equipped laboratories.
The department has also actively organizes guest lecturers, national/regional conferences, workshops, colloquium, refresher courses, seminars, symposiums, exhibitions, industry visits etc. in order to achieve all round development of students through association activities.
Research programmes:
Department is conducting research actively in various areas of Nano Science, Material Science, Nuclear and Atomic Physics, Astronomy and Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics. The research has gained momentum in the recent past by acquiring funding from external agencies, viz. ISRO, DST, UGC and also from Center for Research, CHRIST Deemed to be University. These sponsorships have helped to create state of the art laboratories and instruments to carry further the research and development activities, which has resulted in many patents and quality publications. The department has collaboration with many National and International institutes and research centers. The department strives to bring in research-centered scientific temperament among students by actively involving Post-graduate and few Undergraduate students in the faculty projects. The MPhil and PhD program is designed to make sure the students are well exposed to the ever expanding frontiers of their research areas.

Faculty members of the department also have obtained various external research grants from national funding organizations (viz. DST, SERB, UGC, ISRO) for setting up high-quality research infrastructures in cutting edge areas of research. .A state-of-art analytical and characterization Central Instrumentation Facility for energy and environmental research, crystal and thin film growth and Nanomaterial synthesis are available in the Department. Facilities such as X-ray diffractometers, Electron Microscopy, UV- Visible spectrometer, Fluorometer, Microwave Synthesizer Solar Simulator, and computational facilities play a major role in the exceptional research culture.
Department interacts closely with other Institutes/Universities/Organizations within India and abroad via established collaborations, associateship and MOUs. Department has high quality and high impact research papers and patents published in Scopus/ Sci Index and other prestigious journals. Activities organised like expert talks, guest lectures, international/national/regional conferences, quality improvement programs on various research and teaching themes, workshops, refresher courses, seminars, exhibitions, quiz programs, industry visits provide exposure to the frontier developments in higher education and research. The department also emphasizes skill development and value addition through certificate programmes, interdisciplinary courses and holistic education. Post graduate and under graduate students are also actively involved in the various research projects (both internal and external with national fellowship) as a part of their curriculum, ensuring a vibrant research culture.

I have had the privilege to complete my triple major UG programme under the aegis of the Department of Mathematics in 2019. The environment, the faculty and the facilities there facilitate the learning and growth of students, honing up their logical skills while developing their competence in core subjects. Along with infrastructure of the University, ample opportunities are available for holistic development of students. I could pursue my interests in multiple fields by being part of the University Cultural Team, the University Choir, developing models in the exhibitions organized by the department, sweating-out in the basketball courts, developing soft skills by being member of Leadership Development credit course, learning the nuances of income tax in another credit course, the list goes on endlessly……. And all of these, under the ‘fear’ of constant ‘hawk-eyed’ vigil by our mentors in the department, who kept us disciplined and focused at all times. I thank the university for being part of the journey of my joining the Indian Air Force.

Economics, Mathematics and Statistics at CHRIST provides an ideal package for students aspiring to pursue further studies (in Economics/Mathematics/Statistics/data science), or work at a research/corporate organisation. It imparts theory complemented with software knowledge (e.g., R, Python, MATLAB), which makes the course quite application oriented. As with any school and more so with CHRIST, the peer-to-peer learning is the highlight as students spend most of their day with their classmates. This results in some fruitful collaborations – such as teaching. learning and ideating on the material. Such collaborations extend beyond the classroom and enable people to participate as a team in events related to their subject of study (e.g., Mathematics fests-Convergence & Sequence) and other activities (e.g., street play, teaching underprivileged children). Finally, the friends and network one makes are unimaginable and are long lasting – many pursue higher studies at elite institutions (both within India and abroad) while others work at the corporate firms in India

My journey started with Christ university back in 2013 as a student in BSc Economics, mathematics and statistics.The course created an inclination towards pursuing actuarial science and provided and strong base right at the beginning of my career. Moreover, the university has its own charm and energy. It always motivates to engage in activities other than academia and builds once confidence to deal with challenges that occur in day to day life.
I completed my post graduation in MSc Actuarial Science in 2019. We celebrated our first Actuaries day in that academic year where I had chance to host the event. I can never forget how this paved way to host the Young Actuaries Connect conducted by Institute of Actuaries of India. Well, these are the little surprises university brings through its reputation and association with various professional bodies and organisations.
Lastly, it is my honour to be an adjunct faculty and contribute back to the university. I feel extremely overwhelmed by the faith university and professors kept in me and always recognised my potential.
Currently, I am working as Senior Actuarial analyst at Swiss Re global, a thought in 2013 that turned into reality.
